Augmenting SDI with Linked Data
نویسندگان
چکیده
Spatiotemporal data is provided and consumed by many different communities, reaching from groups of environmental experts, over decision makers, to the public. Due to heterogeneous conceptual and technological approaches, cross-community communication and cooperation remains challenging. Linked Data has been suggested as a means to enable interoperability and first experiments indicate suitability. In this paper, we discuss how solutions for spatiotemporal data management, specifically Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), can be augmented with Linked Data principles. We identify two common usage scenarios and conclude that only minor changes to current SDI standards are required for implementation and identify actions for future work.

Towards a Linked Geospatial Data Infrastructure
The pressure of opening access to public sector geospatial information traditionally managed within disparate spatial data infrastructures (SDI) is driven by a combination of factors. These factors include the adoption of open data programs and the need to integrate spatial data across sectors and levels of government for specific applications. Informed by the success of the Linked Open Data co...

Building on abstract reference models, the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has established standards for storing, discovering, and processing geographical information. These standards act as basis for the implementation of specific services and Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI). Many of the standards used to build spatial data infrastructure (SDI), such as Web Map Service (WMS) or Web Feature Service (WFS), have become outdated. They do not follow current web technology development and do not fully exploit its capabilities. Spatial data often remains available only through application programming interfaces (APIs), reflecting the persistence of organizational silos. Th...
